Dr. Maureen McCormick is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Massachusetts. She works with adults in individual, couples and group therapy.
Dr. McCormick treats patients with many different types of mood and behavioral issues. She uses mind-body techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy in the treatment of adults with depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse problems, and other issues.
With her interest in brain-behavior relationships, Dr. McCormick found the psychology training program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) the perfect fit for her. A teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, BIDMC allowed her to learn about the many connections between medical and psychological issues that are so critical to treating a whole person.
Extensive training in the assessment and treatment of trauma – both in BIDMC’s Rape Crisis Intervention Program and at work in several Veterans Administration hospitals – has informed Dr. McCormick’s work in outpatient psychotherapy. Experience with posttraumatic stress disorder is critical to the treatment of people with addictions, whether to alcohol, drugs, food or other harmful substances and practices.
In 2008 Dr. McCormick began a relationship with Community Legal Services and Counseling Center (now De Novo) that has thrived. Dr. McCormick has performed numerous evaluations through De Novo and now offers immigration services through her private practice as well.
Dr. McCormick earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Rhode Island in 2000. Her research area was clinical judgment and decision making. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and the Massachusetts Psychological Association.
